"Only the Lover Sings" - St. Augustine
Music in the life of the Church is the response of love in which the bride, the Church, sings out in love to her bridegroom, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Music is a form of prayer through which "minds are more easily raised to heavenly things by the beauty of the sacred rites, and the whole celebration more clearly prefigures that heavenly liturgy which is enacted in the holy city of Jerusalem (Musicam Sacram #5)."
At St. Mary's, there are a variety of ways to become involved in Music Ministry:
Traditional Choir: To sing for 9:00 a.m. mass twice a month. Practices are held that morning at 8:10 in the classroom.
Contemporary Choir: Will sing for 5:00 mass once a month. Rehearsals are held that day prior to the mass.
Hand Bells: This ensemble will play two or three times a semester, time/date decided by the group. Ability to read music is necessary. Requires weekly rehearsals, usually Wed. evening.
